As I was traveling home from Richmond with my girlfriend Mary looking for a nice quite place for a picnic we were rudely pulled over by a Virginia state trooper. I wasn’t speeding, weaving, driving wildly,I was just driving. We weren’t in a hurry, just driving.

When the trooper came up to the car I got my wallet out and was digging out my licence, insurance, and registration. As I rolled down the window he stared at me and asked where we were going. I stared back at him and said nothing. Confused he then asked where we were coming from and still a blank stare answered him.

A vien on his forehead started to pop out just a little and finally he asked for my documents which I happily handed him. Then I asked why he had pulled me over and he muttered something unintelligible and walked back to his cruiser. I told Mary that this might be a good place for our picnic and she laughted(little did she know).

After 15-20 minutes the trooper returned. He once again asked where we were coming from and where we were going, and I told him that that information had nothing to do with the traffic stop. Then I asked again why he pulled me our. He said speeding. I asked he he had his radar on and he said yes.

And how the worm has turned. He started asking more questions. Any drugs or alcohol in the car? Any guns or knives or any weapons of any kind in the car. How old was my girlfriend? To all questions my answer was a blank stare. Then the sixty-four dollar question. Would you mind if I search your car? Ilooked at Mary and she was laughing. I simply said YES I WOULD MIND!!

If you won’t let me search your car I’ll have to get a warrant. I said go ahead and get the warrant,we’ll wait. He looked stunned, and told us to stay put. Then he went back to his cruiser. I turne around and opened the cooler on the back seat and started to pull out our picnic food and hand it to Mary who had reached back and got the blankrt and began spreading it out.I said I told you this was a great spot for our picnic.

45 minutes later two more patrol cars with four more troopers pulled up. Back come trooper overkill to our car. He stopped dead when he saw us happily eating our lunch. He forcefully stated I have the warrant. I said great, let me see it. He pulled it out with a big smile on his face. Then I said great, let me read it. He said What. read it. I said yes, read it. He handed me the warrant and I spent 10 minutes or so pretending to read it. When I got to the lasy page where all the real info is, it said the warrant was to search for drugs.

So I looked at him and said why didn’t you tell me you wanted to search for drugs in the first place. We slowly moved our picnic to a nice sheaded grassy spot near the car and continued eating while they searched. After 20 minutes of searching they gave up, finding no drugs or anything illegal in the car. As we were packing up the cooler and blanket they were packing up their stuff.

They said we could go and as we got in the car the first trooper came over and asked me If there were no drugs in the car why didn’t I let him search it. I looked him in the eye and said, have you ever heard of the fourth amendment? Why would I just let you search my car? This is still the United States of America. You all look like idiots and I hope you learned something here today. Citizens have rights and you swore an oath to protect them. I think you broke your oath today. Do better next time. We drove off and left them there with their mouths agage.

P.S. I-95 is a well known drug pipeline going from Florida to Maine, just saying.
